April in Full Force: Rennervation's Monthly Recap

April did not slow down for a single second, and honestly? We would not have it any other way. This month was a whirlwind of firsts, celebrations, meaningful conversations, and community moments that reminded us exactly why this work matters. From our own office parking lot to university classrooms to community galas, Rennervation was everywhere, and we are so grateful for every single moment. Here is everything that made April so special.

  Inaugural Teen Leadership Council

We are beyond excited to share that April marked the very first meeting of our Teen Leadership Council, hosted right here at our office. This is something we have been looking forward to, and seeing it come to life was a genuinely proud moment for our team.

The Teen Leadership Council gives the teens we serve a real seat at the table, a space to connect with each other outside of regular programming, and a meaningful role in shaping the future of our teen-focused initiatives. Their voices matter, their ideas matter, and this council is our commitment to making sure they know that.

These meetings will pick back up after summer camp, since the warm months are our busiest season. But what a way to kick things off. We cannot wait to see where this group takes us.

  MHRA Club Presentation at UNR

We were invited to speak to the MHRA Club at the University of Nevada, Reno, and it was such a fantastic opportunity. We talked about what it looks like to volunteer at camp, shared more about our nonprofit and the work we do, and connected with students who are genuinely passionate about making a difference.

What made this one especially exciting: the professor is actively working to get students from that club college credit for volunteering at camp. That kind of institutional support is incredible, and we are so grateful to everyone at UNR who is helping make that happen. Thank you for opening your doors to us and for investing in the next generation of community leaders.

  Spring Egg Hunt and Family Resource Fair

We were happy to attend the Spring Egg Hunt and Family Resource Fair and soak in all the seasonal joy. Events like this, that bring families and community resources together in one fun and welcoming space, are exactly the kind of thing we love to support. Thank you to the organizers for putting on such a wonderful day.

  Bulldozers and Dirt: NNCCF Annual Fundraiser Kickoff

We had such a great time attending the kickoff for NNCCF's annual Bulldozers and Dirt fundraiser. It was a fun, energetic event full of community spirit, and we are always glad to show up and support great organizations doing meaningful work.

We were touched to receive a little plaque from NNCCF at the event, which meant a lot to us. And in truly exciting news, we also walked away having recruited a few new camp counselors! NNCCF brings together some amazing community partners, and the connections we made that day are ones we are looking forward to building on. Thank you, NNCCF, for including us and for being such a wonderful part of this community.

  Nevada Auto Luncheon

April brought a wonderful surprise in the form of the Nevada Auto Luncheon, where we were honored to be chosen as the recipient of their quarterly charitable donation. We are so deeply grateful for this recognition and for the generosity of this group.

We also had the opportunity to speak to the group and share more about who we are and the youth we serve. Moments like this, where a community chooses to invest directly in the work we are doing, fuel us in a way that is hard to put into words. Thank you to the Nevada Auto community for your support and your belief in our mission.

  Junior League of Reno: Friendship Bracelets and Hygiene Drive

This one was pure heart from start to finish. We joined the Junior League of Reno for a friendship bracelet-making event, where members crafted bracelets headed straight to camp for our youth. Alongside the bracelet making, they also hosted a hygiene drive, making it a beautiful double dose of giving.

The energy in the room was warm, enthusiastic, and full of genuine care. JLR members loved the in-kind donation experience so much that many of them expressed interest in volunteering at future events, which made our hearts so full. Thank you, Junior League of Reno, for always showing up for our kids with such creativity and generosity.

  The NUTmobile Rolls Into Rennervation

Our office parking lot got a very special visitor in April: the Planters NUTmobile. We hosted this fun and quirky event right here at our office and invited some of our foster families to come enjoy the excitement. Even a few of our neighboring businesses wandered over to see what all the buzz was about!

It was one of those unexpectedly joyful days that you just have to experience to fully appreciate. We loved meeting the NUTmobile team, and seeing the smiles on families' faces made it all the sweeter. Sometimes the best moments are the ones you did not see coming.

  Rapid SOS Screening

We were thrilled to attend the premiere of the Rapid SOS screening alongside Jesse from our board and with the mayor on the panel. It was a fantastic evening full of important conversation, great energy, and meaningful connections, with around 50 people in attendance.

The night got even better from there. Rapid SOS committed to sponsoring a camper and has several team members who plan to apply as camp counselors. That kind of direct, tangible investment in our youth is exactly what partnerships are meant to look like, and we are incredibly grateful for their enthusiasm and support. We cannot wait to welcome them into our camp family.

  Be the Movement to End Youth Homelessness Summit

We attended the Be the Movement to End Youth Homelessness Summit, and it was an incredibly valuable experience. Hearing the discussion around solutions, systems, and real pathways to ending youth homelessness was both grounding and inspiring.

We were especially glad to connect with NPHY and learn more about the statewide coalition they are building, which includes the Eddy House. These are the kinds of conversations and collaborations that have the potential to create lasting change, and we are grateful to have been in the room. Thank you to the organizers for bringing so many mission-aligned people together around such a critical issue.

  Careers in Public Health

We wrapped up the month by speaking to a class of 60 students about careers in public health and sharing information about our camp opportunities. The professor was wonderful to work with, and the student engagement throughout was genuinely encouraging.

There is something so energizing about talking to young people who are already thinking about how they want to contribute to their communities. We left that classroom feeling hopeful and inspired, and we are grateful for every opportunity to plant a seed in the next generation of public health advocates.

Looking Ahead

Ten moments. Ten chances to show up, connect, give, learn, and grow. April was one of our fullest months yet, and every single event left us more convinced than ever that this community we are part of is something truly special. We are heading into the summer stretch with camp on the horizon and a whole lot of gratitude in our hearts.
